Merry Christmas from the new committee!

Dear All

As we wrap up a very disrupted year, we hope your families are safe and well  coming up to Christmas. Here’s hoping the recent news of vaccines will bring an end to the pandemic early in 2021.

The loss of competitive fixtures and much of our physical activity through the lockdowns has been disappointing for all involved, but for the boys and girls who could continue training it has been a great escape, and a massive thanks is owed to the coaches, COVID supervisors and club volunteers for keeping the teams “ticking over”.

Thanks also to the retiring committee members (Sonja, Sinéad and Emma) who have given hours of enthusiasm and commitment to the club, and who we hope will remain interested and involved in the club going forward.

We know many businesses have taken stock during the lockdown to re-evaluate and re-organise, and BHC will too. We welcome your thoughts and suggestions as we prepare for a New Year and look forward to sharing our plans with you later in January.

In the meantime, best wishes for Christmas and 2021. We’ll leave you with some images from this weekend’s end of year training (2nd class to 3rd year). Enjoy and stay safe!

2021 Committee

Covid 19 and the move to Level 3

Guidance

Boyne Hockey Club is committed to following the guidance issued by Leinster hockey, Hockey Ireland and the Irish Government. The statement issued by Leinster Hockey today in relation to the move to Level 3 is as follows:

All clubs, players and officials are reminded that they must abide by the Hockey Ireland return to play & competition protocols which include:

  • A Covid Officer must be present for any and all engagement in hockey activity and flag to those involved if protocols are not being adhered to.
  • Members with any symptoms of Covid must stay away from the hockey facility.
  • All members should follow governmental guidance when travelling to and from the facility.
  • Club should ensure all member contact details are accurate and up to date to assist with contract tracing if necessary.
  • All those entering or leaving the pitch should be instructed to wash their hands or use hand sanitiser.
  • Spectators are not permitted at training sessions.
  • Everyone should abide by the Club Covid 19 Protocols.
  • Pods of no more than 15 people.
  • Strictly non contact training. i.e no mini matches etc.
  • No training matches at training sessions.
  • No friendly matches against other clubs.
With our playing fields at Drogheda Grammar School being on the Louth/Meath border, there is some ambiguity regarding addresses and county lines. It is the personal responsibility of each individual / family to ensure that they are complying with governmental advice in travelling to and from the club.
And it is the clubs responsibility (the Covid Officers, supervisors and coaches) to make every effort to comply with guidance and protocols regarding activities on the hockey pitch and at the perimeter of the pitch (e.g. hand sanitiser, pod size, contact tracing, non contact activities, social distancing, equipment, spectators etc).
Thank you to all for your efforts in following government and hockey guidance. Together we will continue to #HoldFirm and play our part in flattening the curve.

We’re back and it feels great

Saturday 5th September

The sun came out this morning to welcome back the kids of Boyne HC. Special thanks to our wonderful coaches, covid supervisors, covid officer, membership secretary, treasurer and committee. We are all in this together. #BoyneHockeyAreBack

Sunday 6th September

Another 4 year groups back to hockey on Sunday followed by a fantastic Irish Hockey Youth Leaders course for our new Rookie Coaches.

That’s 140 kids over 2 days with 4 more groups yet to come. Lots of smiling faces coming off the pitch. Thanks again to everyone for making this happen! 💕🏑

Welcome back!

Welcome back

We’ve really missed you and are delighted to be welcoming back our members from next Saturday 5th September.

Please note: In line with Sports Ireland Guidance, there will be a phased return to training with 4th class upwards starting from next Saturday, 2nd class to follow later in the month and a decision regarding 1st class in October. 3rd class will go back after Holy Communion classes are over.  All groups will be contacted in the normal way in advance by their coaches.

We will post the times and pitch play areas as soon as possible on the website along with the new entry and exit gates to and from the pitch. Watch this space!

Important notes and changes – the new normal

In light of the current situation and new Covid 19 regulations it is important that sessions start and finish on time, and that groups only enter and exit via the designated gates. It’s really important to remember now, that as things open up further, that PERSONAL responsibility and your own JUDGEMENT are more important than ever. We must continue to act responsibly and work together. Strict physical distancing protocols will be in place outside the field area and must be adhered to at all times. We ask for your understanding, commitment and cooperation to ensure this and prevent any further setbacks.

Please see some of the actions and necessary information below (further details will follow shortly):

Club House & Toilets

There will be no access for players to either the club house or toilets for the foreseeable future. School toilets are also out of bounds. A note with more information will go out to parents shortly. We envisage shorter sessions, particularly for the younger groups because of this.

Covid 19 Officer and Supervisors

All groups must have a Covid 19 Supervisor present at each session. These supervisors will be easily identifiable in high vis jackets. They have various duties, one of the more important being to ensure players have completed the Health Declaration Form and signed up to each session in advance (more detail on this also to follow next week).

Janell Callan will be our new Covid Officer this year. The Covid Officer role and other protocols can be found on the Hockey Ireland website HERE

The Officer and Supervisor positions are all voluntary so we thank all the volunteers for their assistance.

Players

To start the season, only players who were registered and played in season 2019/20 can come back to training in the first instance. Once these players are back, we will open registration for 2020/21 but please note that some groups are likely not be in a position to open up to new players this year (due to group size requirements).

Further details and requirements will be issued next week via e mail, so please check your inboxes and get back to us ASAP if you have any comments or queries.

Really looking to seeing you all and getting back to “normality”.

Here’s a wee video to help you understand everything:

History made by BHC at Leinster Indoor U14 Girls Finals

Leinster McCann Cup Winners!

The Boyne Hockey U14 Girls Indoor Team has won the Leinster Championship (McCann Cup) hosted by Portrane at Donabate in spectacular style. This is a first for BHC in the Leinster arena and a momentous win for the club.

The team went unbeaten all tournament and after a 2:2 draw in the final against cup holders Monkstown HC  (and at least 6 x short corners awarded against them), the winner was decided in a stokes playoff. Super star goal keeper Jessica did the unspeakable and saved all 5 Strokes. It was a spectacular finish and the team were very deserving winners.

Massive congratulations to all involved, especially Niall & Sonya,  and the great support shown by parents at the two days. All that Friday night training was worth it!

Onwards and upwards for BHC.

Great start to New Year for Boyne HC

Skerries Inter Club Tournament

On Saturday 4th January Boyne HC entered a 2nd year team (mix of Team East and Team North) to play in a fun inter hockey club tournament arranged by Skerries HC at Skerries. There were 6 teams in total: (Group 1) Skerries, Portrane, & Suttonians; (Group 2) Glennane, Boyne & Cavan.

The Boyne team won in group 2 and went on to play Portrane in the Cup Final (winners of Group 1). Unfortunately they were pipped in the final which went to a penalty shoot out following a nil all draw final match.

The girls had a great day, enjoyed the experience and look forward to other similar events in the future.

U14 Leinster Indoor Hockey 2020 First Round Matches

Huge congratulations to the Boyne Hockey Indoor team today, a selection of 1st and 2nd years.

The team topped their pool in the Leinster Girls Indoor competition. They finished unbeaten with 5 wins, scoring 11 goals and conceding only 1! Especially sweet as there were 4 Leinster division 1 sides and a number of Leinster players in their pool.

A great start to the season! Best of luck girls For the next round of matches later in January.

Wishing all our members a very Healthy & Happy New Year 2020.

Happy Hockey Christmas!

HAPPY HOCKEY CHRISTMAS

SoHockey are coming to Boyne HC with their mobile Christmas shop this Saturday November 30th. They will have sticks, gloves, shin guards, runners., etc. Also stocking fillers like hockey pens, bracelets, key rings, socks, bandanas, etc. Plus Irish Hockey jerseys, socks & hats.

So plenty of present ideas for the hockey players in your life. If there is something in particular you would like – check out the website and phone the shop and they’ll make sure to bring it with them (no obligation to buy).

Southampton Intercity PSi weekend

PSi Intercity Tournament in Southampton

Last weekend saw 7 Boyne hockey players travel to Southampton in the UK for the inaugural PSi Intercity Event.  They were part of the U13 and U15 Dublin North Knights teams, the only Irish team who travelled to the event.

After two long and exciting days competing against teams from across the UK, the U13 Knights finished in first position (gold!!!) and the U15 team narrowly missed the bronze in their event.

To top it off Alicia Duffy on the U13 was voted Player of the Tournament (voted by the coaches and getting all the votes). Wow! Congratulations Alicia. AND Cara Donnelly won top goal scorer in that category too. Great stuff girls.

The girls had a fabulous time and are already looking forward to the next PSi event.

Thank you Gareth (PSi Ireland) for the wonderful photos and memories. What an amazing experience for all the girls.
